Whether it’s wishfully thinking about the long distance vacation you could’ve booked, or the road trip you should’ve taken, a Booking.com study reveals that 67% of Canadian travellers have regrets over missed travel opportunities.

Whether it’s wishfully thinking about the long distance vacation you could’ve booked, or the road trip you should’ve taken, a Booking.com study reveals that 67% of Canadian travellers have regrets over missed travel opportunities.

Some of their top travel regrets include not travelling more often (53%), not travelling more while younger (33%), not seeing more of the countries they travelled to (30%), not doing more adventurous travel (27%) and not going to more remote locations (17%).

Regrets are a lot higher amongst Generation Z, with 34% of this age group regretting not being more adventurous, and 32% regretting not seeing more of the countries travelled to. 28% of the selfie generation (aged 18-24) regret not taking more photos on their trip, compared to 19% globally.

Despite their sense of regret, two in five Canadian travellers overcame their worries to travel to a certain destination. Meanwhile, 54% of Generation Zs claimed to have overcome their travel anxiety.

For half of Canadians, going on vacation has inspired significant life changes, including an increase in passion for life (16%), overcoming a major fear (15%), learning a new language (11%), a positive effect on their mental health (53%) and a desire to improve physical health (22%).

Research commissioned by Booking.com and independently conducted among a sample of adults who have taken a trip in the last 12 months/plan to take a trip in the next 12 months. In total 20,500 respondents were surveyed (1,000+ from Australia, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, China, Brazil, India, the USA, the UK, Russia, Indonesia and Colombia and 500+ each from Japan, New Zealand, Thailand, Argentina, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Hong Kong, Croatia, Taiwan, Mexico, the Netherlands, Sweden, Singapore and Israel.)
